What to Expect

KEELBOATS – A Thrilling Pursuit Race!
Set sail in an exciting pursuit race! Boats will start at individual times based on anticipated performance—slowest boats first, fastest boats last. While the goal is for all boats to finish together, wind conditions, tactics, and skill will shake things up!

How it works:
Watch the “Fall Numbers” displayed at the Start Box.
Numbers will be shown sequentially every minute.
Your boat can start only after its assigned number disappears.
A ten minute warning sequence will signal before the first boat starts.

A new Jib and Main only option is available for boats without sufficient or experienced crew to fly a spinnaker. This is perfect for boats that don’t sail regularly but want to get on the water and be part of the fun!

DINGHIES – A Sprint to the Start!
An exciting Le Mans-style start pursuit race around Mosman Bay and surrounds, commencing at 2:30 PM. Sailors will start onshore on the beach and commence in waves, running to their pre-rigged boats when their starting time is called.

A spectacular event for sailors and spectators alike!

Enjoy refreshments at the Dinghy Café while watching the excitement unfold.

POWERBOATS – A Raft of Fun!
Powerboaters will raft up between the northeast of Middle Spit and Black Spit to enjoy a front-row view of the pursuit races! Socialise, soak up the action, and be part of the fun.

Get creative and dress up your boat to compete for the Best Presented Powerboat prize!

LOGISTICS
CAR PARKING – Once the on-site car park is full, overflow parking will be available at Manners Hill Park.

CRANE LAUNCHING AND RETRIEVAL

Please be aware that crane launching will be quite busy, so to help avoid delays, we kindly ask that you have your boat rigged as much as possible before arriving. This will allow for smoother transitions and make room for the next boat to launch.

Launch Order:
J24s, Dragons, and 15s to launch first
Etchells, Sports Boats, and Division 1 will follow, in that order.
Please aim to be in the water at least 30 minutes before your scheduled start time, if possible.

Retrievals will also be busy, and we ask for your patience as congestion is expected. If space is limited, be prepared to moor up until a spot becomes available.
Consider bringing refreshments if you plan on waiting, and ensure your sails are rolled up and you're ready for a quick extraction when it's your turn. Once your boat is on its trailer, please exit the crane area promptly to allow for the next boat to be lifted out.

Pursuit Race Instructions for Keelboats

Under the handicap start system, boats are to start at one-minute intervals according to their handicap. Each boat will receive a fall number ahead of the event. The higher the number, the earlier the boat will start. The slowest boats will be assigned the highest fall numbers and the fastest boats will be assigned the lowest fall numbers.

The numbers will be displayed sequentially at minute intervals from the RFBYC start box (Keelboats)  Each boat can only start after the fall of its assigned number. Before the first boat starts there will be a ten minute warning sequence, followed by the fall of the numbers.

For a list of the Fall Numbers and the details of the starting procedure, please refer Appendix A and B in the Supplementary Sailing Instructions.
