WA IRC State Championships / Rockingham Race Regatta

Saturday 25 & Sunday 26 November 2023:

An annual weekend for sail and power.

The 2023 Rockingham Race Regatta will play host to the WA IRC State Championships. Racing will include two passage races and windward-leeward races. 

In partner with The Cruising Yacht Club of WA – Rockingham.

Sail and power yachts stay overnight in Rockingham with hospitality ashore at TCYC.

Saturday – one around the buoys racing off Cottesloe Beach followed by the Dolphin Race, a coastal passage race from Cottesloe to Rockingham. Watch the racing from North Cottesloe between 9:30am and midday!

Sunday – one around the buoys racing in Rockingham followed by the Gordon Craig Ocean Race, the return coastal passage finishing at South Mole in Fremantle. View the yacht racing from Rockingham Beach between 9:30am and midday.

SATURDAY 25 NOVEMBER

  • 0925 North Cottesloe, first warning signal (two windward / leeward races).
  • Warning signal for the Dolphin Race, passage to Rockingham, will be after all yachts have finished the around the buoys racing and not before 1130.
  • Ferry service with TCYC, moorings to shore from when boats arrive in Rockingham.
  • TCYC Galley open for food.
  • Buffet dinner at TCYC, socialise and enjoy the evening at the Club. No presentation.

SUNDAY 26 NOVEMBER

  • Buffet breakfast at TCYC has been cancelled due to low numbers. 
  • Ferry service from TCYC jetty to moorings.
  • 0925 Cockburn Sound, first warning signal (two windward / leeward races).
  • Warning signal for the Gordon Craig Ocean Race, passage to Fremantle, will be after all yachts have finished the around the buoys racing and not before 1130.

Information for competitors

Race entries:

Please note, Crush (F0052) has entered for the Dolphin Race only. Sirene has entered for the passage racing and will not contest the windward/leeward racing. 


Amendments:

Amendment One - boats to record their finish times and evidence for the Gordon Craig Ocean Race and provide this to the Race Committee. 

Amendment Two - there will be no presentation on Thursday 30 November.

Notes:

Passage race starts times have been amended to be "not before 1130" this is 30 mins earlier than the original notice. Teams will be informed by email soon. 

There will be no race briefing. 

The presentation will be included with the Farrawa Cup Series presentation at the end of the season. Race and series results will be published online as soon as practicable after racing each day.

The presentation for all races in the weekend event will be held at RFBYC in the Members' Bar on Thursday 30 November commencing at 1815.

Race History
The first race for the Gordon Craig took place in 1949 and the Dolphin Race in 1953. Over the last 60 years these races have been made up of a number of different course formats from windward-leeward racing to short passage races. In the last few years the course has taken yachts from Fremantle to Rockingham for an overnight stay at TCYC and then Rockingham back to Fremantle on the Sunday.

The Bill Schulstad Memorial Trophies

These trophies will be awarded to the boats in Divisions 1, 2 and 3 with the best aggregate IRC corrected time for both races (Dolphin Race / Gordon Craig Ocean Race). Bill Schulstad was a long serving member of The Cruising Yacht Club and instrumental in the famous Cockburn Sound Regattas that dominated the offshore sailing season for many years. Bill was also deeply involved in te administration of yachting through YWA and was a life member of that organisation.
