Part of the annual Rockingham Race Regatta.
There are two coastal passage races included in the weekend event.
Saturday – The Dolphin Race is approximately 25 nautical miles. The race begins in the vicinity of North Cottesloe Beach at midday and takes the fleet south to Rockingham. The fleet are invited to stay overnight with event partners The Cruising Yacht Club, Rockingham and race back the following day.
Sunday – The Gordon Craig Ocean Race is approximately 22 nautical miles and begins at midday in Rockingham. The fleet complete a lap of the bay before heading north to the finish line at South Mole in Fremantle.
For both races, the start time is listed as “not before midday”. There are two windward/leeward races scheduled for the morning session which are part of the WA IRC State Championships. Boats who are only participating in the passage races are requested to arrive in the start area in time for a midday start but to keep clear of boats who are still racing. The Race Officer will endeavour to start the passage races as close to the scheduled time as possible.
