Learn to Sailing Dinghies
Specially designed for adults to learn to sail in Pacer Dinghies - safe and enjoyable introduction to small boat sailing covering fundamental boat handling skills and essential safety knowledge for beginners. Subject to numbers, courses will run over 5 Saturday mornings between 09:00 and 12:00. Alternatively a five week programme is run on Tuesday mornings between 09:30 and 12:30. A fun way to learn to sail in the safe confines of Freshwater Bay.

Keelboat Crewing Course (BW8 Sports Boats)
This introductory course is suitable for novice sailors who have little or no sailing experience. To be conducted in the Club's BW8 sports boats, the course is intended for both skippers and crew and will provide participants with the skills to join a keelboat crew in a regular Thursday or Saturday afternoon race. This course will involve both on-water and theory sessions and be supervised by a Yachting Australia Accredited Senior Instructor. It will cover preparation and planning, rigging and setting sails, personal safety and 'man overboard' procedure, rope work, basic skills in helming and crewing, basic 'rules of the road - at sea' and basic sailing terminology. This course will run over 5 Saturday mornings between 08:30 and 12:00. (course requires a minimum of 5 participants).

Advanced Keelboat Crewing Course (BW8 Sports Boats)
This course follows on from the introductory course and covers more advanced techniques including sail shape and controls, wind patterns and strengths plus introduction to racing tactics and rules. A great way to gain more confidence so that you will be better prepared to join a competitive racing crew. This course runs over 5 Saturday mornings 08:30 to 12:00. Minimum of 5 participants.

Private Lessons/Courses
Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club Sail Training School can, at the request of individuals, arrange private lessons in either Pacer or Laser dinghies. Participants can even bring their own boat. This course is useful for those wishing to gain additional skills outside the structured courses or who are unable to attend regularly. Lessons can be tailored specifically to your needs and should be booked directly through the Training Coordinator. Special lessons can also be customised for groups as required. This is a cost effective way to advance quickly receiving one-on-one instruction.

Recreational Skipper's Ticket: Theory and Practical Assessment
In Western Australia, drivers of boats and yachts fitted with motors greater than 6HP must hold a Recreational Skipper's Ticket (RST). There are two assessments: a 30 question theory paper and, on successful completion of the theory practical, an on-water practical assessment. Both assessments are generally carried out on the same day by arrangement with the Club assessor.

Recreational Skipper's Ticket Training Course including Theory and Practical Assessments
This 12 hour training course is suitable for new powerboat owners or novice users who require a 'stand and deliver' training course to prepare for the formal assessments. Subject to numbers, this course will run over four sessions: two evening theory sessions and two practical half day sessions.

Prerequisite:
It is recommended participants obtain a copy of 'A Guide to the Recreational Skippers Ticket Workbook' and study the contents prior to commencement.

Recreational Skipper's Ticket Practical Training
Practical training in handling small powered craft is available for those who wish to sit the RST but feel they should brush up on their boat handling skills. Individual training at a convenient time can be arranged by contacting the office. Up to three participants can be accommodated at a time on the vessel.

National Power Boat Proficiency Course
(formerly TL3) incorporation Theory & Practical Assessments for Recreational Skipper's Ticket
If there is sufficient interest, the Club will conduct a comprehensive course covering Yachting Australia syllabus for the National Recreational Powerboat Operator Certificate and theory and practical assessments for Recreational Skipper's Ticket. The course is designed to provide novice boat owners with the knowledge and skills required to safely handle a recreational powerboat. Competencies covered include rules and regulations, trip preparation and planning, safe boat operation, knots, rope splicing, GPS and response to emergencies and incidents. This course will run over six sessions - dates to be determined.

Prerequisite:
It is recommended participants obtain a copy of 'A Guide to the Recreational Skippers Ticket Workbook' and study the contents prior to commencement.

Marine Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency
If you are using a VHF or MF/HF transceiver in your boat, Australian Communications Authority requires you to hold an Operator's Certificate. This course is conducted by an experienced invigilator, and covers the required Australian Communications Authority syllabus and examination for issue of the Marine Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency (MROCP) for both VHF and MF/HF radios. This course will run over four Wednesday evenings between 19:00 and 21:00.

Prerequisite:
Participants will be required to provide a colour passport size photo of themselves.

Senior First Aid Certificate
This 15 hour industry standard course is run as required, either over two days or 5 evenings.
It is suitable for anyone wishing to gain essential skills to administer first aid in an emergency situation. This course is particularly suitable for sailors wishing to qualify as instructors.

ALL COURSES ARE SUBJECT TO SUFFICIENT NUMBERS - DATES/TIMES MAY ALSO CHANGE - PARTICIPANTS MUST BE WATER CONFIDENT AND ABLE TO SWIM (BUOYANCY JACKETS SUPPLIED)

PRIVATE LESSONS/COURSES
Upon request from individuals, one-on-one dinghy lessons can be arranged. Sessions are charged by the hour with a minimum of 2 hours per session. These courses are conducted in either Pacer or Optimist dinghies at a cost of $55 per hour including GST.

After school group programmes can also be arranged - price will depend on number of participants/boats, hours required and level of instruction.
